Job Description


At Nine, we are reinventing how the country consumes news, across our digital web and mobile app properties such as the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age & Australian Financial Review.

We have a brand new, modern tech stack entirely cloud-first with a fully automated, Slack integrated CI/CD DevOps environment and we need more engineers to take it to the next level.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will play a key role in building features for our award-winning in-house Editorial CMS, INK.

Working in a small autonomous Agile squad, you’ll be crafting world-class features for our editorial applications using cutting-edge technology while further sharpening your technical skills.

Our technology stack is predominantly web-based, particularly using React, Golang and NodeJS but you should be willing to deep dive into other areas including AWS & Kubernetes.

What you will be doing:

  • Creating auto-scaling, microservices & APIs servicing our huge web and app audiences

  • Crafting world-class high performance high availability web applications & interfaces

  • Writing high quality TypeScript / ReactJS / Node.js / HTML5 & SASS

  • Working in small autonomous Agile squads

  • Cross skilling and training on DevOps, React and other areas of our stack

  • Building the next generation news experience for a huge audience


Qualifications


Ideally you will have

  • Previous commercial programming experience (ideally minimum 3 years)
  • Experience building APIs using microservice architecture

  • Commercial experience working with ReactJS or equivalent front-end frameworks

  • Experience building and deploying solutions on AWS or other cloud platforms

  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience in PHP, WordPress & Gutenberg (Block Editor)

  • Cloud-first thinker

  • Excellent problem solving skills, be a self-starter, and have eagerness to learn

  • Passion for software and quality mind set
